OOSC Water Polo schedule is set!!!

Great News!!!  2014 marks the start of a new phase of summer fun – “Old Orchard Water Polo”!!!

In an effort to expand the available activities at the club & to introduce new water sport opportunities to our young swimmers (ages 8 – 14), the OOSC Board is happy to announce that Water Polo sessions will be held on the following Tuesday evenings this summer.     Tuesdays –  6/24/14,  7/1/14, 7/8/14, 7/15/14, 7/22/14, 7/29/14

This final session will end early with a Pizza Celebration!!!!

The Old Orchard coaching staff along with a former collegiate Water Polo athlete will instruct & manage each session in the following format:

6:30 PM:  Group Discussion under the Pavilion

  • Basic Rules of “Old Orchard Water Polo”, which is limited in scale and caters to our younger athletes
  • Equipment – New Water Polo Balls and Goals
  • Safety
  • Conditioning
  • Skills Instruction / Swimming Techniques
  • Positive Attitude and Teamwork

6:45 PM:  Warm-Up in the shallow end of the pool

  • Modified Freestyle Front Crawl Stroke
  • Treading Water
  • Eggbeater Kick
  • Dry Passing Skills

7:00 PM:  Games

  • The Coaching staff will place the participants onto age-appropriate teams. The group will then move to the diving well where the water polo games will be played as follows:
    • 7:00 PM – 10 & Under Game {Girls vs. Boys}
    • 7:20 PM – 11 & 12 Game {Girls vs. Boys}
    • 7:40 PM – 13 & 14 Game {Girls vs. Boys}

Each game will last 15 minutes, including a brief “half-time” intermission.  There should be plenty of quality swimming for each participant since each team will only have 3 players in the water at the same time.  For safety reasons, there will be multiple substitutions during each game so that each player gets ample exercise & rest!  Additionally, the amount of time that a swimmer is permitted to play will be based upon the coaching staff’s assessment of the athlete’s ability to comfortably tread water and swim without assistance.  For anyone who is not able to meet these basic playing requirements, we will encourage these individuals to watch the games and cheer for their “Otter” teammates.

8:00 PM:  Session Ends

o   Please direct any questions or concerns to Coach Chris

o   Please pre-register at the front desk at OOSC.  While there is no cost to participate at this time, in the future “Old Orchard Water Polo” bathing caps and T-Shirts may be available for a small fee.

o   All participants should bring a RED bathing cap to the first session.
